The terrace was named after John Singleton Copley Lyndhurst, an Assistant Magistrate. The Cantonese name Pai Fa (擺花) literally means “flower arrangement", possibly because of presence of numerous stalls in the area in the mid-19th century, selling flowers to the customers of the nearby brothels.

The hotel was inspired by abstract concept of flowers-Lily of valley as the symbol of lady and the design of the curtain wall was inspired by one-piece Chinese dresses-cheongsam ( 旗 袍 ) with floral pattern. The use of old style and vintage furniture and sculpture adorn in hotel to make customers recall the history of lyndhurst terrace.
